ONAIPOL SPOOL

BIKES, BEER, POOL, AND HOTDOGS -

11JUN – week 11.  Lopiano Loops in REVERSE.  After last week, the temps and the creativity of barons and the riders has begun to pique.  This is awesome, cause just about anyone can throw out a suggestion on a course or a baron challenge and it pretty much gets thrown in the mix.  Sometimes it sticks, sometimes not.  Sowers had been asking for a Lopiano in reverse (or anything in reverse) for quite a while.  Wish granted.  Mind f’ing begins.

22 jumped on board this concept.  Most had pre-ridden to clear the cobwebs and rewire the ole noggin – this included Nick Thomas.  Rich Weis had put in 5 laps.  A host of others did at least 1.  I opted for show and go. Three hot laps – literally.  It was 106.

We started on asphalt, and Robert Laroche took hole shot.  Weis waited.  At 52, and riding 1 gear, I had an excuse for the 5 or 6 in front of me except Robert.  He’s just a tough SOB, I hoped I’d be able to get him…eventually.   By the end of lap 1, Weis had blown through the field and was starting to expand his lead.  Mark, having passed me on a downhill was starting to fade, I recall him voicing the same concern I had “that was one?!” enter tirade of expletives by yours truly.

Somewhere on lap 2, despite pre-riding and riding the first of 3 laps, Nick made up a new course of his own.  He dropped a few spots.  Neal, stopped to grab his bottle, which, while I was able to pass him, was untimely at best.

At the start of lap 3, Weis was nowhere in sight.  Neal was chasing, and Nowicki and Mark had fallen back.  Despite the extra laps, and a self imposed delayed start, Weis dominated.  Somehow with all the DNFs and mechanicals I pulled out a 2nd place finish.  Trowbridge DNF’ed due to his wounds, and Janell was the only female to race, so she takes the win by default.

We bypassed the Tavern for hotdogs and beers at Chris’ apartment.  How do you pass up hotdogs, a pool and PBRs?  Well, you don’t, or you shouldn't.  Most didn't, and good times were had by all.

Cliff notes:

Why did Vince make a comment not to shoot fireworks at his home?

Nowicki explains why he REALLY sold his house (ps the Whitehouse already knew thanks to your Verizon records).

STP patch finally delivered to Nowicki – persistence (and moving) pays off

Next week – Out N Back – Baron - Neal

NOTE - Plan on making July 9 a longer evening.

June 23, 2003 - STP started, that means we are coming up on 10 years.  To commemorate and celebrate, Scott Nowicki (aka the Godfather) is taking any suggestions you may have from historical routes/challenges etc.  Feel free to peruse the archives (under results tab) for ideas and some of his rants from "back in the day".
